I thought that I was back on the road to recovery, but I can feel the crackles in my lung again. Mostly in my left lung. It was the one that was problematic in the past. Although, I had crackles in both lungs.

I have an appointment with my Pulmonolgist in a couple of weeks. We'll see if it goes away.

It's a step backwards, but I'm going to stay positive. I have no cough, no fever and no reason to be overly concerned.

God Bless,

captex

Crackles are heard with a stethoscope. They can be of various grades from fine to course. It's best to listen to the these and similar lung sounds on the internet before to decide if you are hearing crackles.

Your probably right. But I said that I can feel them. I can't "hear" them. I feel the movement of air or bubbles or whatever it is that causes the crackles. My Pulmonologist has confirmed the crackles everytime I've mentioned them.

I don't know why I can feel them, just that I have always been able to feel them in the past. I'll let you know if I'm wrong when I see him this week.

I agree that it is unlikely that I could "hear" crackles.

God Bless,

captex

Thanks for that site RC. I've always been able to hear my crackles, I have my own stethoscope too, but can hear them w/o that. My dr can even hear them if Im really crackly before he uses his stethoscope. Maybe I really am an oddity, as claims my sister im a medical mystery. Don't have them so bad now that Im using my inhaler, I do cough alot tho.

My lungs make all kind of noises and I can hear them clearly. I get sound like foil being crumpled up, velcro being pulled apart and crackling. Sometimes they make a metalic pinging sound. When I wheeze, it makes a different sound than an asthmatic.

Well I had my appointment today, X-ray & PFT test. The Good News/Bad News was that nothing changed. But he confirmed, as I suspected that the Crackles are back.

I go back in three months, more wait and see.

God Bless,

captex

captex, I'm glad that nothing has changed but I don't understand with the crackles back what does that mean? MaryJ.

I wasn't ever aware that crackles come and go. I am totally unaware of my own crackles, which btw have always been there for at least 7 years. Crackles are heard on a stethescope.

So crackles have nothing to do with the progression of IPF? I thought it meant that the inflamation was in progress which causes the scaring? MaryJ.

My crackles are always there according to my doctors but unless my lungs are acting up, I'm not aware of them. I just had a new ct scan and I've had no progression for a number of years so at least in my case, the crackles haven't meant I'm getting worse.
