You know, I am not normally a sensitive person when it comes to what other people think or say.
Lately, when I interact with people at work, and they discover that I am working at home, they invariably say, "You're so lucky!"
Most of the time, I just move along, and don't give it another thought. But it's becoming a bit annoying. I'm not working from home because I am lucky. I'm working here because I'm sick.
I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable, so I don't react, normally... but I just had a call, got the same 'Your'e so lucky!' comment, and said to them. "I'm not lucky, my lungs are dying."
Could I have been a LITTLE bit less mean? Now I feel terribly cruel, and the poor young man probably feels even worse.
I need to take a breath and relax. I know it. And now, I vow to not ever let that phrase "You're so lucky" get me upset. I'll just remember that I AM LUCKY that I CAN work from home, and that as long as I can breathe, I'm lucky. |
